In Reading Between the Lines: Part 3
The education world is going through a process of churn and at a good measure at that. With a change in its firmament a new world order is emerging. As the positive tailwind propels the sector into new highs there are good news for the e-education segment as well.
There is a growing buzz and the words like global university, virtual classrooms, self-paced learning, are making the rounds more than ever before. In this transformation, the segment no doubt stands to gain and shine bright. Of interest, would be to see whether it gets ennobled in the process.
In a silent transformation, revolutionary changes are taking place in the education world. The armada of changes are marching in, bold and strong. In the process, a new world order is emerging.
What are the macro trends in this makeover? What are the change processes already evident at the corporate level, which the education community should take cognizance of? How as an individual one is likely to face the challenges of the new world?
Let’s check a few emerging trends in the last of the three part series…
The motto of Citius, Altius, Fortius:
Swifter- Higher – Stronger is now becoming the bull’s eye principle to succeed in today’s world of fierce competition. A candidate must demonstrate his edge over the peers to be counted in the crowd. The role of quality education as the foundation block is becoming more important in this respect
In this consumerist age, time and efforts made to acquire education is a smart decision to take; it improves the networth of an individual. A good academic background is rewarding as in a way it ensures higher chances of economic prosperity and socio-cultural upliftment in one’s career.
No wonder therefore that career counseling, education fairs are gaining grounds and as if to put everything in a straight jacket , loans for higher education are available to overcome the financial barrier in case one is not qualified for the financial aids.
Given that there would be a growing need for skilled and qualified workforce in the job market, one would be encouraged to take the education axis as a good base to career foundation. But, there are practical realities as well; involving time, distance and money which might dampen the process.
Going by statistics, there is already a distinct spurt in enrollment in online education courses as they provide a viable alternative to the conventional classroom format with the added advantage of flexibilities of time and distance at a relatively low cost. The fact that eminent universities are now according equal status to online courses in graduate and masters programmes, there is an added incentive to sign up for online.
Call it the campus of the future or modern time e-universities, this segment of education is evolving really fast into higher sophistication. It is not just about learning delivery of e-courses but a lot more. With the aid of internet-age chalkboard, called whiteboard, virtual classrooms offer instructor led classroom learning, Q&A interactions, problem solving sessions etc. The curriculum experience includes collaborative practices, live chats and networking; and on successful completion, a valid certificate for the job market. The e-education is thus opening up a golden gate of opportunities for the aspiring section of the tomorrow’s workforce.
Finally, to sum up the broad perspective:
- It is commented, globalization in education is a positive sum game, there is incentive for everyone to gain
- Corporate will find a soulmate in training in their attempt to knowledge energize their workforce
- Surely enough, the emerging scenario will make an individual think and look at education / learning in a redefined positive way, as a ladder to future success.
In all these transformational episodes, we are confident to believe; e-education will come in to act its due role and transcend from being good to great. ![]()
