E-training in Development & Consultancy Sector

Distance learning based on e-platform is still at a nascent stage in the development field. It however has the immense potential to contribute in certain sectors of training and skill enhancement.

In the conventional format, while training programs/modules are available in CDs – the interactions between the trainer and the audience are passive and the trainees do not get their queries answered immediately.

In comparison, the real time online training provides instant interactivity and a platform to deliver training of high calibre. Add to that the advantage that quality faculties/trainers can impart learning from their location of choice and not required to be physically present at the venue end.

These trainings are especially helpful in the multi disciplinary areas like business skills development and education. As business skills development training programs call for sharing of different experiences from different places – real time e-learning platform provides an unique opportunity to share such multiple interactivities. Besides, it also enables to reach out in the fur flung areas with the availability and arrangement of the requisite technology.

A case in point:

Using this e-enabled platform, Afghanistan SME Development project funded by USAID did a pilot with six different business skills development training. The trainings were content developed and imparted from India. In the process, Afghan SME carpet producers learned how to exhibit and market their wares in an international show.

Facilitating success:

The training helped 40 Afghan carpet producers to participate effectively in the Domotex – Hannover, the largest trade show in carpet sector. They generated export order worth of $41 million, according to the organizer of the Afghan Pavilion.
